July 13-17 | 10 AM - 12 PM
In this class, we will gather bits and pieces of plastic, shells and wood from the beach to make mosaics. Creating a beautiful piece of art, while supporting (and cleaning up) our beaches. This project brings nature into your process. The instructor will provide plenty of materials, but Loni wants the kids to have a vision of where their work is going, as they gather, and it will be fun! The focus is on creative re-use, up cycling and being resourceful. This class is for those who LOVE art making, inventing crafts and bringing their creative ideas to life! We will go out on the beach at the beginning of the first class to gather materials. The rest of the class will be spent assembling the mosaics and making some collages with leftovers. Students are encouraged to bring small found objects to the class to use in your mosaics. Thought the week, we will do a variety of projects.
Permission slip from a parent or guardian is required for outing to the beach.
Loni Sanders has been teaching creative reuse classes and eco mosaic at the beach, and around the state for 5 years. Loni enjoys the process of experimenting with materials and often creates from a process over product oriented perspective…in other words, making art from trash. “I hate to see these materials end up in the landfill, and worse, in our ocean.” In her studio, she focuses more on mixed media pieces, further developing her desire to enrich her life with creativity in her art making. Loni lives in Beaverton, but spends a lot of time on the coast.
