Award winning fingerstyle guitarists Doug Smith and Brooks Robertson will present a close-up workshop exploring techniques and strategies for developing picking-hand thumb and finger independence. Having solid coordination and dexterity with the thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers allows the fingerstyle player to balance bass, chords, and melody all simultaneously, on one instrument. This enhanced coordination also allows for greater control of tone, dynamics, volume, and overall versatility. Smith and Robertson will demonstrate and teach several key concepts and techniques including: hand placement, alternating bass and Travis picking patterns, Folk style picking patterns, banjo roll patterns, and more. TAB/Chord Diagrams will be provided for specific examples so you can take the music home and work on it at your own pace. This workshop is great for beginning - intermediate players looking to develop and improve their picking-hand technique.
