Concerts in the Park

The free Summer Concerts in the Park program has been a favorite summertime activity for many years. An afternoon 4 th of July concert traditionally kicks off the series with the remainder of concerts held from 2pm to 4pm. This is a great opportunity to pack a picnic and a blanket and bring the family to the City Park for some great music. Here is a listing for specific dates and performers in 2009.

July 4th- North Coast Symphonic Band with Honor Guard - 2:00 - 4:00pm
Sponsored by Coaster Properties

July 26th - TBA

August 2nd- The Retta Christie Trio - 2:00 - 4:00pm ( swing/country)

August 9th- Chris Parker- 2:00 - 4:00pm

"Our first concert in the park was kicked off on July 4th with the North Coast Symphonic Band. It was not only well-attended and blessed with beautiful weather, but very moving. The color guard opened the ceremony and the band's musical salute to our veterans, as they stood and sang to their particular anthem, created an aura of pride and patriotism. A very special appearance by Cannon Beach's own, Jim Smith, conducting the final song and speaking of his fond memories with the N.C.S.B. brought tears of emotion to the audience. The CBAA set up a booth at the park for those interested in becoming members, acquiring the concert series calendar and information on all art events in our community. What a beautiful, musical and special way to celebrate Independence Day! Thank you Coaster Construction for sponsoring this great event.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the sponsors of the Free Summer Concerts in the Park 2009. Even with this years fiscal challenge, these local businesses cared enough to step up to the plate and give to their communities through live music performed by local musicians: Hamlet Builders, Coaster Construction, Cannon Beach Vacation Rentals, Escape Lodging, the Bald Eagle, Hallmark Resorts, White Bird Gallery, Bronze Coast Gallery, George Vetter and the City of Cannon Beach. I hope you all know how important you are in saving the arts at a grassroots level, despite the economic situation in the world. With abundant gratitude and appreciation we, at the Cannon Beach Arts Association, thank you for keeping this tradition alive in our community! "
